The British Royal Wedding

Essence of a  fairy tale

We have witnessed another wedding spectacle that will remain in the center of discussions in all corners of the world in the next coming days and even months. This is the British royal wedding that captivated the hearts of so-many ladies in waiting, the Cinderella believers that somehow, someday, they will meet their royal prince charming.

The last time we had seen this wedding spectacle was on April 29, 2011, when Prince William, the firstborn of the heir to the British throne, Prince CharIes, exchanged vows with Catherine Middleton, his girlfriend for seven years at Wesminster Abbey, one of the world’s greatest churches dating back more than a thousand years ago. It was a classic example of the British royal wedding, unmatched and unparalleled for its glamour and pageantry.

The royal wedding that took place on May 19, 2018, in St. George Chapel at Windsor Castle in United Kingdom had some kind of twist. This time, the bride was an American whose mother was black American, her name was Meghan Markle, born in Los Angeles, an actress, a divorcee and a well-known television personality in the US, widely known for her role in the Canadian-American legal television series, Suits. She has been Prince Harry’s apple of his eyes since 2016 and has been dating the prince since June 2016.

Getting all the nods

Unlike Prince Harry’s grandfather, King Edward VIII who had to abdicate his crown in order for him to marry his American sweetheart, divorcee Wallis Simpson in 1936, Prince Harry’ marriage with Meghan Markle, received no opposition from the public nor from the British royal family.

In fact, on the morning of May 19, Prince Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, conferred upon him three titles, Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel. As a new member of the British royal family, Markle would become Duchess of Sussex. Using the Anglican church standard service of matrimony and the liturgical text of the Church of England, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby officiated at the wedding.

The hearts  grow fonder

Prince Harry and Meghan’s relationship started in London on July 2016, Markle, then 34, met Prince Harry, then 31, when they were introduced by a mutual friend. The budding relationship was confirmed later on by Harry’s best friend in the late October.

Their relationship, even if they made some valiant attempts to keep it from public, still passed through heavy scrutiny of the international press. Prince Harry and Markle love affair was officially acknowledged only when a statement was issued by the royal family’s communication secretary on November 2016 to address what they called “wave of abuse and harassment” directed toward Markle.

The news about the sweethearts’ forthcoming marriage was announced on November 27, 2017, that Prince Harry would marry Markle in the spring of 2018,. They were seen in London earlier the same month, with Prince Harry gave Markle an engagement ring made by the famous court jewellers and medalists to the Queen, Cleave & Company, the ring has a large diamond originated from Botswana with two smaller diamonds from Princess Diana’s jewellry collection. They also announced that Nottingham Cottage would-be official residence following their marriage, located within the premise of the Kensington Palace.

The kingdom in festive mood

At the delight of the people who heard the news, most especially the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, congratulations from various political leaders in United Kingdom poured in, in the likes of the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, including Jeremy Corbyn, the British opposition leader. The couple cordially gave an exclusive interview to Mishal Husain of BBC News after the announcement.

The public announcement of the wedding was held at the Sunken Gardens of the Kensington Palace where Markle dressed in a bottle knee-length, emerald green outfit detailed at the cinch waist by Italian label, P.A.R.O.S.H. and a white trench coat made by Canadian brand, Line the Label. It was learned later that the website of Line the Label crashed down due to the big number of people who wanted to purchase the trench coat, hours after the wedding announcement.

After the announcement of the engagement, it stirred so much amount of expectations about the social significance of Markle marrying into the British royal family since she is only the second American, first was Wallis Simpson who married King Edward III in 1936. Markle is the first person of mixed-race heritage, her mother is a black American while her father is white and she would be on the eve of becoming a proudly mixed-race royal.

Paving the way to the altar

The Succession to the Crown Act of 2013 states that the first six persons, in the line of succession require the Sovereign consent in order to marry and Harry is the fifth in line at the time of his marriage. This requirement did come in handy for Harry. Markle had to change her religion prior to her wedding, though she attended a private catholic school in her early age, she was not a Roman Catholic. She was baptized and confirmed into the Church of England on March 6, 2018, by Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby in St. James palace.

Being a divorcee with a living spouse, it did not hinder Markle’s marriage to Prince Harry because in 2002 the Anglican church had already allowing marriages to divorced persons with living spouses. This would also signal the years-long process for Markle to acquire her British citizenship. In the meanwhile, she would retain her US citizenship while her British citizenship is in process. Anent to this, the Kensigton Palace has indicated that the decision whether or not Markle will retain her dual-citizenship has not yet been made.

If Markle retains her US citizenship, it would result to some tax complications and eventually expose Markle’s finances to the scrutiny of IRS.

The couple’s engagement

It was Christmas of 2017, when the couple was invited by the Queen to celebrate with the royal the Sandringham estate and at the same time, Prince Harry would propose to Markle. The engagement was photographed by Alexi Lubomirski, former assistant of Mario Testino, a world-famous Peruvian portrait and fashion photographer of GQ magazine. The date was December 21, 2017,.

Unlike in the past wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton in which the British government announced a bank holiday, it was not done on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wedding and no bank holiday was announced.

The wedding also coincided with the date of FA Cup final which Prince William normally would attend being President of Football Association. The royal wedding on a weekend is also a break from royal tradition of having weddings on weekdays. In this connection, on February 12, 2018, the Kensington palace also announced that the wedding would commence on 12:00 midday.

Prior to the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, St. George chapel in Windsor was also the venue for wedding of Prince Harry’s uncle, the Earl of Wessex, his cousin Peter Philips and for the blessings of marriage of his father, Prince Charles and Harry’s stepmother, Camilla Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwell.

Summing up the wedding cost

The overall cost of the wedding expected to be around 32 million pounds in which the royal family would shoulder. It would include the cost of the wedding cake estimated to be 50,000 pounds, flower arrangement estimated to be 10,000 pounds and the catering estimated to be 286,000 pounds. It was expected the cost of security would be lower compared to the cost of 2011 wedding of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The Royal Borough of Windsor and maidenhead had reportedly spent 2.6 million pounds for the town and road cleaning. It was predicted the wedding would spike tourism growth and 500 million pounds in economic boom.

The bridal gown

Tasked to design the wedding dress was famed British fashion designer, Clare Waight Keller with the backing of Givenchy brand. The dress was made of “double-bounded silk cady cushioned by an underskirt in triple-skirt organza” and had a boat neckline, long sleeves and sweeping train. The silk veil was 16 feet (4.9m) long and embroidered with 55 flowers that represent the 53 countries of the Commonwealth, including Wintersweet flower which grows in Nottingham palace where Meghan and Harry would live after the wedding. Included, too was another flower, the California Poppy, which is the state flower of California.

The veil was secured by a diamond bandeau tiara made in 1932 for Queen Mary and lent to Markle by Queen Elizabeth II, while the center brooch had been a gift from the county of Lincoln in 1893. The tiara is a platinum band consisting of eleven sections, a detachable center brooch with interlaced opals and diamonds while the shoes also came from Givenchy with pointed couture design.

Grooming the Cinderella

Markle’s other outfits were gold and diamond earrings and bracelet that came from Cartier. Markle’s hair was rolled up with face framing tacked behind her ears and well done by Serge Normant. For the occasion, make-up artist did Markle’s make-up. Her look was described as a “soft-brown eyeshadow” with minimal make-up on the face. Her nails were painted in a “neutral-pinky beige” for the ceremony. Markle’s bouquet was designed by Philippa Craddock which had “forget me nots”, scented sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine and astrantia and sprigs of myrtle.

Prince Harry chose “forget-me-nots” and personally picked by him in honor of her late mother, Princess Diana. Following royal tradition that began with the Queen mother, the bridal’s bouquet would be placed on the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at the Westminster Abbey.

In line with the customary bridal theme, “Something old-something new, something borrowed, something blue,” Markle’s gown and veil represented (the new), the Queen’s tiara, represented (the old and borrowed). Sprigs of myrtle taken from a plant grown from the myrtle used in the Queen’s wedding bouquet and a piece of fabric from Diana, Princess of Wales wedding gown, represented (the old) and Diana’s favorite flowers, forget-me-nots in the bouquet represented (the blue).

The groom looks so princely

For the occasion, Prince Harry and Prince William wore the frock coat uniform of the Blues and Royals where Prince Harry served sixteen years including combat stint in Afghanistan. The gentleman’s tailor and uniform makers, Dege and Skimmer in Savile Row, London, crafted their uniforms.

The groom had asked permission from the Queen to keep his beard since there are only exceptional circumstances that beards are permitted in the British army. Prince Harry wore the rank of Major with the star, with the Royal Victorian Order from which he is the Knight Commander together with the ribbons of the Royal Victorian Order, Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan. Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee wings.

Prince Williams also wore the rank of Major, he had EIIR cyphers on his shoulder patches, he had gold aguillettes on his right shoulder and wore the stars of the “Order of the Garter”, the ribbons of the two jubilees’ medals as well his RAF wings.

Clare Waight Keller designed the high waisted silk dresses worn by the young bridesmaids which had puffed sleeves while the pageboys wore uniforms that looked as the same as the Blues and Royals uniform. The dress code was specified in the wedding invitations, for men, it was “Dress Uniform, Morning Coat or Lounge Suit,” for women, it was “Day Dress and Hat.”

Setting the record straight

The Kensington Palace had made an announcement on April 26, 2018, that Prince Harry chose his older brother, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge to be his best man. That early, there was no confirmation yet, if Prince William would attend the FA Cup final that coincided with the wedding date, an occasion he regularly attended being the Football Association president.

However, Kensington Palace released a statement in December that the wedding would not, in any way tangle with the match schedule, after which it confirmed in March that Prince William would no longer attend the football final anymore.

In choosing Markle’s maid of honour, the name of her best friend, Jessica Mulroney cropped up. In early May 2018, it was confirmed Markle’s would have no maid of honour. Instead, they chose to have bridesmaids and page boys who were all children.

The bridal entourage

There was a total of ten bridesmaids and page boys from which the bride and the groom would select five each. Two of Markle’s godchildren seven-year-old Rylan Ritt and her six-year-old sister Remi, including Brian, John and Ivy Mulroney, who were the three children of her friend, Jessica Mulroney were chosen by the bride.

Prince Harry’s chose his nephew and niece, the son and daughter of Prince George and Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.  Also included were his godchildren, Florence Van Cutsem, Zalie Warren and Jasper Dyer. Another announcement came from Kensington Palace that Prince Charles would accompany Markle down the aisle when it was confirmed that her father, Thomas Markle, Sr. could not attend the wedding due to his recent heart surgery.

Prior to the wedding day, Markle spent the night with her mother at the late 18th-century prestigious five star hotel, Cliveden House while the groom, Prince Harry spent the night with his older brother, Prince William in same prestigious and classic five star hotel, Coworth Park Hotel. Markle’s mother accompanied her on the way to the church.

Around 250 members of the British Armed Forces were handpicked for the occasion, majority of which came from units that had connections with the Prince Harry. The Household Cavalry members formed a staircase party at the chapel and rode as escort. 1st Battalion Irish Guards, 1st Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles. Three regiments from Army Air Corps, Royal Navy, Royal Marines and RAF Honington formed as Street liners.

The wedding service was conducted in accordance with Christian Liturgy on Holy Matrimony described in Common Worship of the Church, the mother church of the Anglican Communion. The public started to arrive at the grounds of Windsor Castle as early as 8:00 am, while the main congregation and the guests began to arrive at about 9:30 am. This was followed by the arrival of the members of the Royal Family. As part of tradition, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were the last to come for the ceremony at around 11:52 am.

The moment she’s waiting

Markle arrived with a party of junior attendants, while the Prince of Wales was standing by for the bride. She proceeded down the aisle followed by the attendants. Prince Charles escorted Markle through the chapel’s quire, accompanied her up to the altar where Prince Harry was waiting. Baroness Fellowes, maternal aunt of Prince Harry, read a scripture lesson from the Song of Solomon in the Christian Bible. David Conner, The Dean of Windsor, conducted the service with Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury who performed the wedding ceremony.

The sermon was delivered by the presiding bishop and primate of the Episcopal Church (the American member church of the Anglican Communion), The Most Reverend, Michael Curry. His 14-minute address which quoted Martin Luther King Jr. emphasized the redemptive property of love. Due to its unexpected length, it caused the service to exceed by eight minutes. Reverend Prebendary Rose Hudson Wilkins, the chaplain of the Queen, including the Coptic Orthodox, Archbishop of London, Auba Angeles offered the prayers.

Published in the Common Worship were the marriage vows and the promise “to love and to cherish” each other. Further, sealed by ring exchange. Cleave and Company designed and crafted the wedding rings with Markle’s ring made of Welsh gold while Prince Harry’s ring was made of platinum. After signing of the registers, the couple and the guests sung the national anthem altogether, Harry and Markle paused briefly, bowed and paid respect to the Queen. As they walked down the aisle, they were followed by the bridal entourage and their family members. At the steps outside the chapel, Harry and Markle kissed each other.

At the wedding receptions

After the wedding ceremony, it was followed by a carriage procession through Windsor. A couple of receptions were held in different venues. The first was held in St. George Hall for the guests who attended the ceremony and was hosted by the Queen. Singer Elton John performed for the guests. The Prince of Wales and Prince Harry gave each a speech. The second was held in Frogmore House for the royal family and close friends and was hosted by the Prince of Wales.

Later in the day, Harry drove his new wife to the Frogmore House reception in a silver blue colored Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero, a new version of 1968 Jaguar Concept Zero, with the customized licensed plate bearing their names and date of their wedding. In the evening reception, the Duchess of Sussex wore a Stella McCartney creation, a halter-neck open-back dress complimented with an emerald-cut aqua-marine ring formerly belonging to Diana, Princess of Wales. For the private party, she took the service of stylist George Northwood.

Breaking the tradition, Markle delivered a speech at the event. The Duke of Cambridge also gave a speech while DJ Elba entertained the guests. After the party, the guests were treated to a small fireworks displayed on top of the Frogmore House. The wedding cake had layered lemon and elderflower cake, decorated with peonies in shades of white and cream, created by Claire Ptak, cake designer based in London who was chosen as early as March 2018.

The official photographer was Alex Lubomirski who released the three official wedding photographs in Windsor after the wedding ceremony.

All the music they played

One of the hymns sung at the wedding was Lord of All Hopefulness and Guide Me O Though Great Redeemer which was the favorite of the late Princess Diana. It made Prince Harry teary eyed when he heard it. It was also the song used in his mother funeral and in Prince William wedding, was the opening hymn.

The music provided for the service by a couple of choirs, an orchestra, chapel organ and the fanfare trumpeters. The orchestra was composed of musicians from BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the English Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra. Aside from the Choir of the St. George Chapel, the Kingdom Choir, a gospel group led by Karen Gibson sang “Stand By Me” and was an incredible and powerful moment.

A fanfare was played by the State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry, Kate Sandford did a piece also and was the first female trumpeter at a British royal wedding. James Vivian, the chapel’s organist and Director of Music was the overall musical director and Christian Warren-Green conducted the orchestra.

To the tune of “Eternal source of light divine”, (from the Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne), by Hondel sung by soprano Elin Manahan-Thomas with the trumpet obbligato performed by David Blackadder.

Also, included was a motet, “If Ye Love Me” by Thomas Tallis. The song “Stand By Me” was arranged for the choir by Mark Delisser including “The Lord bless you and keep you” by John Rutter.

In the signing of the register, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, 19-year old cellist performed together with the orchestra which played Sicilliene attributed to Maria Therasia von Paradis, Faure’s un reve, a cello and orchestra arrangement of Schubert’s Ave Maria.

The Allegro from the Symphony No.1 in B-flat major of William Boye including “This Little Light of Mine” by Etta James, Jester Hairston and Harry Dixon Loes were also performed for the procession.

Sizing up the wedding venue

An official list of domestic and international political leaders were not required for the wedding and was announced as early as April 2018,. The British Prime Minister Theresa May and the Oppositon Leader Jeremy Corbyn would not attend, too. US President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama were not also invited. It was totally different from the wedding of Prince William, Prince Harry’s older brother which had a large number of guests being an heir to the British throne.

It was decided not to invite political leaders in consideration of the size of the venue which was small and Harry’s position as sixth in-line to the throne. The only politician invited was former Prime Minister Sir John Major because he served as “special guardian” to Prince William and Prince Harry on legal matters after the death of their mother, Princess Diana.

The size of St.George Hall could only accommodate around 600 people, and only those who had a “direct relationship” with Prince Harry were invited.

In the evening reception at Frogmore House, 200 close friends of the couple were invited. Also, invited were 1,200 members of the public who were tasked to greet the couple outside of the chapel. They were people from charities, members of Windsor Castle community, people from the royal households and the Crown Estate including local school children.

And the list of guests goes on

Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah, The Duchess of York, was invited to the wedding but not invited to the evening reception in Frogmore House. Besides, she was also absent to the recent royal weddings of Prince Williams and Catherine Middleton, Peter Philips and Autumn Kelly, Zara Philips and Mike Tindall, (Peter and Zara were Princess Anne’ son and daughter, (both Harry’s first-cousins). It was reported that being omitted from the guests’ list made Sarah “deeply upset”.

Some non-royal guests were Markle’s co-stars in Suits, Patrick J. Adams, (with wife Troian Bellisario), Gabriel Macht, (with wife Jacinta Barret), Sarah Afferty, Rick Hoffman, Gina Torres, Abigail Spencer, actor George Clooney, (with wife Amal Clooney), Idris Elba and Tom Hardy, actresses Oprah Winfrey, Priyanka Chopra and Carey Mulligan (with husband Marcus Mumford, television host, James Corden.

Sports and entertainment personalities included tennis player, Serena Williams (with husband Alexis Ohanian), David and Victoria Beckham, musician Sir Elton John, (with husband David Furnish), James Blunt, Joss Stone and rugby players, Jonny Wilkinson and James Haskell.

Also, invited was Markle’s friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney, Harry’s ex-girlfriends, Cressida Bonas and Chelsy Davy. Some members of the Middleton family were also in attendance.

The ruler of Lesotho, Prince Seeisoho was the only foreign dignitary invited to the wedding. He was Prince Harry’s friend and co-founded the Sentebale foundation to help orphaned victims of AIDS in Lesotho.

The 2,640 members of the public who attended the wedding in Windsor Castle were showered with gift bags to commemorate the events that contained order service booklet for the wedding, a gold chocolate coin, a bottle of water, fridge magnet, a 20% off voucher for the Windsor Castle gift shop, a tube of handbag shortbread, initials of the bride and groom and the wedding date and venue location were printed out the bag exterior.

Sometime in April 2018, the couple requested that instead of giving gifts, people could just make donations to one of the seven charitable organizations they mentioned in which they had not formally associated with.

The Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding was considered the biggest event in 2018, with a viewership of about 18 million in UK alone. While 29.3 million Americans watched in the US, exceeding 23 million Americans who watched the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton in 2011. It was estimated that more than hundreds of millions watched the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle all over the globe.

Following the royal tradition, princess have been awarded peerages before their marriages which also happened to Prince Harry who was bestowed with three titles, hours before the wedding, Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel. Markle acquired the title “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.”

The Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding would be remembered for its significance. A departure from the tradition typically associated with the Royal Family. Started from the essence of African-Ameican culture in service which was a “landmark for African-Americans” benefiting Black British, mixed-race women and to the Royal Family in particular. The limited impact that “Markle being a biracial as opposed to African-American keeping black people from taking her as one of them.”

The Merits Of Dating Sites

One Of The Few Colorful Stories

In line with my blog objective to alleviate the plights of Filipina ladies who jumped on the bandwagon of dating sites in their never ending quest for quality life abroad, I feel it is also incumbent upon me to discuss the merits of dating sites, like a coin which has two sides, its face and its tail, dating sites have their own good and bad sides, too. This time, I’m about to tell a story of a Filipina lady who is residing in a country in Europe, she visited my blog site lately and had confided me her real story which falls on the good side of dating sites. Let’s just call her Nadia.

Her family was known in the community for being kind and living a modest, yet decent life. At the early age of five, she was enrolled in a catholic school by her parents where she became one of the prominent faces in the school campus later on. In the brood of six, She was the prettiest among the three ladies and the brightest of them all in reference to their school achievements. She was the type of person who put all her time in everything she did. In short, she was an achiever and highly intelligent. Since Nadia was human, she was prone to commit mistakes also and she learned her lessons the hard way, too. It was when her world suddenly took its turn and stood still. From this point on, her own travails began and saw the merits of dating sites afterwards.

Following Her Dreams

Like any normal teenagers, Nadia had her crushes and admirers, too. She was the life of whatever party she attended, because her parents wanted her not to be left behind, she was provided with all the things that a teenager like her would need which made her the standout in and out of the school and in her community. One of her admirers was a son of a town official who aside from being rich was powerful in their town. We will call him Jeffry, not his real name. Nadia was actually head over heels to him from the start but she did not want love to cross her path while she was studying. Although she sometimes mesmerized what a kiss and hug from a boyfriend was.

Jeffry was groomed by his father to become his political heir apparent and it was his father’s wish Jeffry would become a lawyer someday while Nadia was an apolitical person who thought too much politics hindered her country’s growth. She witnessed how people became poorer as there was no continuity in every government program. Government officials had come and gone and left the country and its people in the sad state of affairs. Nadia’s dream was to pursue higher studies abroad and work in a world organization like United Nations and to join African mission so she could make a name for herself in a very noble way and make her country proud of her. It’s how what she wanted to be in the near future.

Love Made Her Crazy Sometimes

It’s February and Nadia’s school was preparing for its annual senior ball. It’s a very special occasion that only happened once in a blue moon so everybody in school was so excited in its preparations, besides it was one of the school’s culminating activities, a must for everyone to attend.  Nadia and Jeffry were tasked to do a special dance number to highlight the occasion. The problem was, Jeffrey could hardly dance and follow the steps because he was born with two left feet while Nadia showed some terpsichorean prowess when she easily mastered the steps while Jeffry could not. It’s already late and they decided to go and agreed to continue practicing the next day. Jeffry offered a ride home which Nadia readily accepted.

As they traversed the way to Nadia’s home, the traffic was moving in a snail pace, Jeffry started holding Nadia’s hand, she did not resist his advances, she could not understand herself because she liked to feel Jeffrey’s hand, too. They were not talking but it seemed they were under the spell of something which they could not fathom. She was defenseless and passive to what Jeffrey was doing with her. The car’s tinted windows were the mute witnesses for what they were doing inside the car.

Since it was rush hours already, all the streets were clogged with vehicles and can be mistaken as parking lots. Jeffry tried another way where there were several motels lining up on both sides. She was naive but she was not ignorant. She would want to shout at Jeffrey and told him they were committing a big mistake and it should be stopped. But to her dismay, her mouth could not utter any words and just went with the current and for the first time, she felt her body was burning with desire to be touched, hugged and kissed by Jeffry. “If it is a dream, I don’t want to wake up yet”, she told herself.

When Sin, Took Toll From Her

Nadia was home past midnight, the first time it happened to her. When her parents asked her why she came home late, she answered them politely but she could not look straight to their eyes. “We were so worried about you because you failed to return our calls,” Nadia told them they should not worry anymore because she is already home after which she went to her room to clean herself up and change her clothing.

She could not understand why she felt so dirty and restless after that incident in the motel. But there was that guilty feeling deep inside her. That night, Nadia’s innocence seemed to be blown away from her well-being and was taken over by pride. “Is there anything I can be proud of ?”, she asked herself. Then she remembered Jeffry, she wanted to talk to him to find out if he also felt the same thing, she dialed Jeffrey’s number but to no avail, she received no answer from him after several tries.

In school, the first thing that came to Nadia’s mind was to see Jeffry and talk to him. She missed Jeffry too much which she never felt before. For her, Jeffry was so important figure to her now and she wanted to know how was he  doing, “Is he feeling alright or not ?” Everything in her world had changed overnight. Was she already in love with Jeffry? “Why am I acting like this, ” she asked herself repeatedly. It was past three in the afternoon but there was no sight of Jeffry. Even his friends were wondering what had happened to him. The day was finished already and yet, there was no Jeffry, even his shadow. There was no option left for Nadia but to head home with a broken heart. She felt so sad that she cried so much along the way.

The Damsel In Distress

“What comes around, goes around.” Nadia learned the bad news that circulated in the campus. Jeffry left to US a couple of days ago. He would stay there and continue his studies and there was no assurance if he could come back again. Why the haste and it was so sudden? Nadia felt her world crumbled and a thunderbolt hit her. She looked up on the skies and ask, “Lord, why it is happening to me, forgive me if I sinned and don’t forsake me, please!” Some of her classmates saw her emotions and got puzzled with the way she was acting. It was so strange for them to see why Nadia felt so bad about Jeffry’s sudden departure to the US. If only they would know what really transpired between them, they would not wonder but she and Jeffry did something in secrecy and she would keep it a secret, no matter what happened.

A month passed after Jeffry left to the US and Nadia tried to pick up the pieces and start over again even if she was still feeling devastated, She did try everything to hide her emotions in front of her parents. She was expecting Jeffry would communicate with her accros the thousand miles and tell her how he missed her. It seemed Jeffry was in a Jurassic place where there was no means of communications. The reason why she could not receive any news from him. She just consoled herself and thought she would hear something from Jeffry any time soon, then again, she cried and pitied herself.

Nadia woke up the next morning feeling some dizziness followed by vomiting. She tried to remember what did she had in supper last night that might have triggered her dizziness and vomiting but she was so sure it had nothing to do with it. Then something popped up on her mind but she was so afraid to think of it. What if she was impregnated by Jeffry. What if she would bear a child and become a mother? Nadia could not find the answer to her question, She saw herself hanging by a thread and would fall down on the ground anytime.

The Truth Shall Set Her Free

What she did was informing the school she was not feeling well and could not attend her class. She had the slightest idea of what would happen next. Without her knowing, her parents were also in a quandary because they were really sure, something was wrong with their Nadia. “Hon, would it be okay for you if we talk to our daughter now, I’m sure something is bothering her lately, she’s acting strangely, maybe she is sick and looks so problematic!” The husband said, “That is what in my mind, too, It’s good that you told me.” The wife heaved a big sigh and held her husband’s hand, then tagged him towards Nadia’s room. “I can’t wait any longer, she must tell us what troubling her and why is she acting so strange to us these days.”

Nadia heard the knocks and her parents voices asking her to open up, she gazed at the mirror in her dresser to see if she looked nice, wiped the tear marks on her cheeks and put a smile on her face to conceal her emotion. She opened the door and let her parents come in. Her father kissed her on the cheek while her mother hugged her so tight. Suddenly, she remembered Jeffry and imagined him kissing and hugging her like what her parents just did to her.

“What’s up darling? We haven’t had any chat nor conversation lately, Your dad and me missed you very much. Something’s bothering you, my dear?” Her mother dearly asked. At this juncture, Nadia could not answer, her body trembled and started crying. She was not used to telling a lie ever since. She embraced her mother tightly, leaned on her shoulders and cried out loud. It released the burden on her shoulder, finally got hold of her strength and told everything to her parents who listened intently.

Her Time To Move On

The doctor called Nadia to come in, “I would like to congratulate you, it is positive that you are pregnant, I made a prescription that will ensure the baby’s wellness.” Nadia nodded and just said, “thank you doctor,” then she got out of the clinic to go home. Her parents were so anxious to hear from her. “What did the doctor tell you darling?,”her mother asked. ” She just confirmed I’ll become a mother soon,” she answered back. “Like what we had planned, we will do everything to make sure your baby will be fine and well until you give birth. You will continue your studies even if you are pregnant.” Nadia retorted back, ” Mama, it won’t take long, my classmates will see the bump on my stomach, I’ll become the butt of jokes in school if that happens!” Her mother was still calm saying, “all problems have their solutions, you shall overcome, darling”. Nadia just hurriedly went to her room and did not utter any words anymore.

Nadia was contemplating to go to school again. She felt she was still not okay to go out and so sure she lost her interest in her schooling. Her baby and her situation were her first priorities now. It’s quite normal for any Filipino families to have relatives living in other countries, specifically in the US. Her father’s brother and sister were in the US, too, for a long time so did her mother who had sisters living in Australia. Nadia said to herself, ” I think, I got the solution to my problem already.”

She went to her parents’ room to see if she could talk to them. Both of them agreed and let her in. Her father’s first reaction was, “I don’t see your uncle and your aunt can accommodate you at this time, they are all hard up and struggling in the US,” Then, Nadia waited for her mother’s words. “It was the same situation darling, your aunts in Australia are not doing good also and in dire straits at this time,” to which Nadia exclaimed, ” when they are vacationing here, they act like they are rich and have plenty of money to spend, now that I need their help, you’d tell me they are all broke!”, The discussion ended without results.

Throwing Her Last Card On The Table.

She texted Jeffry’s closest friends to find out if they knew his US whereabouts. Everyone texted her back with the same answers, nobody knew Jeffry’s address and phone number in the US. Nadia felt so helpless and could not control her crying. At this point in time, she needed someone to comfort and join her in her time of loneliness. Had Jeffry known what was happening to her at this moment, she thought Jeffry would hurriedly come home and console her but where was he now? He was nowhere to be found like a needle fell in a haystack.

Again, she felt some hungriness for sour tasting fruits, she craved so much to eat them, she remembered her cousin who also got pregnant before and who requested some raw mangoes from her quipping she would die if she could not eat what she wanted. She could not help but smile. Nadia knew very well her situation now and she must do something for the sake of her would be baby, come hell or high water!

Suddenly an idea struck Nadia’s mind, why not she tries dating sites?, Nadia knew about dating sites because she is well-informed and regularly browsing over the internet in her free time. After taking a light breakfast and took a glass fresh orange juice, she sat in front of her laptop and logged in. At first, she was quite hesitant to divulge some of her personal circumstances but later on freely gave all the details which were asked in the form she was filling up. She hoped and prayed something and someone would come out and to solve her problems.

Cutting The Long Story Short

The search became successful as if God’s hand was doing it for her. It did not take her long to accomplish all the pertinent papers that would be needed in her departure. She landed in Berlin, Germany where she and her husband Helmut lived in harmony. She was accepted by her husband’s family and being loved so much. She has a child with Helmut while her first born child was named after Helmut’s name, his name sake. They have a blooming construction business in Berlin and her role is attending to the administrative side of their business. They visited the Philippines twice already. Helmut is planning to build a house in her province and settle there when they retire in the future. Helmut has come to love the place, the climate and the people’s hospitality.

Now, Nadia is basking on her glory and she is vacationing together in the Philippines with her husband, Helmut and her kids. Her homecoming this time is somewhat bittersweet because they came home purposely to attend the burial of her father who succumbed to heart attack recently. Nadia knows her father is at peace whenever he is now because he saw her daughter successfully weathered the proverbial storm in her life. Her mother is doing alright and enjoying the company of her grandchildren. Nadia has nothing to be asked for because she is blessed with everything she has wished in her life.

You Finally Made It

March 3, 2018

You Are About To Go

Everyone in the neighborhood is ecstatic when they heard the news that you are leaving. After some glitches and hitches in your pursuit of a better life somewhere, your time has come and you finally made it! All in the family are saying prayers for your safety along the way when you travel the next more than a thousand-mile stretch to reach the place where you will begin your life’s next chapter. It’s indeed, a long and tiring journey to your new home but it does not concern you at all because what overwhelms you, is the thought that you are leaving the place where you had so much of anything but happiness…. the truth really hurts!

You still remember those days of trying and seeking to meet your Mr. Right through dating sites. Countless shady characters and personas were lined up for you to choose. All sorts of nationalities and skin colors were there for your picking but you preferred a wheel-chaired bound, white skinned, rolly-polly old guy thinking he could be harmless and more humane than the other young colored skinned guys. What struck your mind was most of them looked too old to be your husband as they already looked like your grandfather who passed away so long a time. At least, you could make a broad smile now because after all the nitty- gritty of finding out your life-partner, you finally made it! He is at the other side of the globe waiting for you with open arms. It already sunk in your mind that you would be doing extra chores for him other than your wife’s role of tending a disabled old guy whose days on earth are already counted. Nevertheless, you are prepared for the worst case scenario, if ever.

Seeing Things In Retrospect

Those were the days when you lost your self-respect. There were times you already had some inklings of hopelessness. You were born out of love and your parents seemed to be the happiest persons in the world the first time they saw you. They had the fondest dreams of giving the best this world could offer to their last-born child who was you. At first, everything was quite alright because your laughter brought happiness to everyone who heard it. It was like a making of a telenovela. The house where you were living was aptly called home as it filled with emotions and harmonies, and you were the apple of the eyes of everybody. At a glance, one could have assumed how fortunate was you compared to the others. What a complete irony!

But love and affection could not guarantee a comfortable living. Your father had an on and off job, but more often, he was out of job. Though your mother shared the responsibility of eking out a living by doing some laundry, her income was so insufficient to provide the family’s three square meals daily. Later, it became a hand-to-mouth existence, having something to eat the next day would be remote possibility. As you grew up, you would want to go to school but tightening your belt was the priority, to enroll in school and study with a crumbling stomach was not a good idea because nothing would get into your mind which prevailed upon by your hunger.

You were lucky that there were public schools that offered free elementary and secondary education, but still, you ought to have some money for food and transport. But you really wanted to study so you did some odd jobs on the side and studied at nighttime, you got enrolled and were able to write, read and understand English language, aside from Filipino, your native tongue. And because of the same financial issues, you were not able to finish your secondary education, you had to stop in the mid-stream which was amply enough for you to break the language barrier and be able to communicate with some foreign nationals by speaking broken English.

Life Is Really A Mystery

In your childhood, you saw the big inequality between the poor and the rich people. While you were sporting a worn-out tattered clothing which could be your best, your rich neighbors wore nicely-ironed dress of which by your standard would already worth a fortune. You could not even eat at the famous fast food chain like everyone else did but just watched your well-off peers eating and enjoying their meals while you were salivating. “If God was really fair, why He let me suffer this fate”, you asked yourself. You did not get the answer but somehow, something struck your mind.

It was like you woke up from a deep and long slumber. Then you finally realized you should have lifted up your butts early on and played catch up. No one can turn back the hands of time. If you want something, go for it and work for it. Nothing would happen in cooing. It’s a waste of time. Now is the time for you to take action. “God is always watching above us. He will never let us fail”. The statement your mother used to tell you since you were a kid. It amazed you to know that your parents were able to maintain an enviable life’s virtue even in most difficult times. This was just like a shot of the much-needed adrenalin in your body. You felt more motivated in your quest of changing your life for the better.

Now, you see yourself in the company of like-minded women who opted to take chances of marrying foreigners to change the course of their lives. It was not an easy-peasy task but you have already witnessed some success stories of many deprived women who are now living happily across the globe with their foreign husbands. It seemed dating sites have their own days of glory, too!

You still remember the first time you were taken to an internet shop and taught how to log in and did some scribbling on the computer’s keyboard. You were fascinated by the sounds you made as you touched the keys. It even reminded you the noisy place in your neighborhood where people tried their luck to make some cash by playing majhong game only to head home empty-handed. In this country, poor people could not earn enough through legal means while people holding respectable positions in the government were raking tons of money through unalawful ways and living in luxury with their families. This is the life’s riddle which your mind could not really comprehend ever since.

What You See Is What You Get

Your friend guided you to type some words again after which you became familiar and landed to a dating site littered with photographs of ladies of different ages but with the same objectives of seeking foreign life-partners to get out of poverty where they stuck since their childhood. You were asked to submit some personal information as well as one of your best picture. And the rest was history. You finally got hold of the guy whom you just saw on his picture. From the Caucasian looks of him, he seemed to be lonely, sitting in a wheelchair and living alone in a big house adorned with things you only saw on movies. This guy must be rich!, the first thing that struck your mind.

After some several online meet ups, a “relationship” bloomed and flourished in a short span of time. There was no affection involved whatsoever but just a mere consensual meeting of minds. He wanted to have someone on his side who would take care of his personal needs while you would want to have life security and all. It’s a matter of using each other for each own personal gains.

You visualize yourself now clearly unlike before where you pictured yourself so vaguely. You learned to smile sweetly and broadly once again and your mind started to saunter across the blue horizon. Hope filled your heart that finally, you could make a change, maybe a big change in your life and provide your family the things that will make their lives worth living. There is always an answer to every prayer. The Almighty always listens and has peculiar ways of answering everyone’s prayer, yet, He is the only one who knows what would be His answer. God answered your prayer and He even made your faith stronger so you can regain your self-respect. As you gazed around, you realized, the world is still beautiful and abounded with His graces.

In our darkest hours of uncertainties, we tend to lose our hope and resort to some self-pity in the thought that the Almighty has already forsaken us and subjected us to a never ending life’s trials. Everything will come to an end because nothing is permanent in this world. All of us will leave in our own time, but one thing is for sure, that after sunset, the sun will shine again.

Life has its own highs and lows. In times of tribulations, Poverty is not a hindrance to succeed in life. In fact, poor people have some head-starts over the others because they are more resilient and would not just easily give up. They maybe downed once or twice but would stand up again and fight. They are borne winners and get tougher when the going gets tough. Sometimes, they got the sure-fire formula to realize their dreams. A proof is a number of successful people in our pantheon of greats also came from poverty but they strove hard to make names for themselves and excelled in their fields of interest.

If you are born poor, rejoice and feel proud of yourself because you are destined to a greater height of achievement in which a very few people had been able to conquer and replicate.

To Date Or Not To Date

Oh My! It’s Love’ Month Again…

This article is already late because February 14 is already in the book. I could have written this earlier had I not been busy with my usual chores which used to occupy most of my time, letting me pass the chance to open up my laptop and scribbled some words with some connections with the Philippine celebration of Day of Hearts, a.k.a. Valentine’s Day. First thing that comes to mind,  to date or not to date their beloved damsels. For romantic Filipinos, this is a special day in which to show to their loved ones how much they love and care for them.

I know it is also being observed by some Filipinos who got married and settled in other countries with their foreign espouses, but the way the Philippines celebrates Valentine’s Day is something extra-ordinary, yet unique. It is very hard to imitate its glamour and pageantry, something to be proud of by Filipinos themselves who still firmly believe in the magic of Cupid’s arrow. To those Filipinos who are love-struck, they are set to go on dating with their partners which will seal and complement the occasion. Some would do it on the eve of the celebration while some would do it on the day of the celebration itself, but some Don Quixotes are still contemplating whether to date or not to date their Donna Dulcineas!

Romanticizing The Event

Love fills the air as people and lovers alike ecstatically wait and counting days, hours and minutes for the special day. Every business establishment in the hospitality industry is offering different kinds of promos to lure customers and to spike their sales revenues. But the flower shop business is the one making a killing several days before the big day comes as almost all Romeos hurriedly buy bouquets of flowers to manifest their love for their Juliets. But not all Romeos are created equals, some have been able to save some bucks for the celebration while some Romeos who are financially challenged are brooding in one corner, fidgeting their fingers because they are not sure if they  can date their beloved Juliets, who like the others are expecting something nice for them in the forthcoming day of hearts’ celebrations.

Valentine’s Day is a festive celebration in the Philippines, Filipinas turned gaga and love-struck. It even boosts trade and commerce in the country as the Filipinos are preparing for the occasion. Hotels are fully booked already several days in advance. Malls are festooned with decors of red hearts of all sizes and cupid images, literally, the town is painted red and while shoppers are in spending spree for gifts to be given to their loved ones.

An Occasion That Knows No Bound

Truly, Valentine’s Day is an event for all types of people regardless of sex, relationships, nationalities, skin colors and even religious affiliations. Since all of us were conceived and born out of love, Everyone feels the same heartbeat and passion. We always want to show our affections towards our loved ones, ( although, there are some of us who were born undemonstrative and cold ), but this is not an issue because they also want to feel they are being loved and important to the people they loved.

Even the people that belong to the third sex cannot be outsmarted when it comes to Valentine’s Day celebration. To those well-off individuals, they would want to shower their partners the best gifts available, making their celebrations memorable one. And for some who are out of budget, the celebrations must go on even in the simplest form out of extravagance.

In this world of complexities, we are now abounded with things that become a part of our daily living. We are in the radar of technology evolution, or the age of computer in other lingo. We learned to accept things the way we see them which exhibits our open-mindedness and liberalism.

Before, there were only marriages of men and women as dictated by our Christian teachings, least we seldom see people belonging to third sex openly admitting and showing they are in some serious relationships with their same sex partners. This practice was regarded as taboo in the olden days of our society and people who were involved in this kind of relationship were considered on the road to perdition.

The Dawn Of LGBT Era

As the sun sets to give way to another day, the dawn offers many changes and surprises to all of us. God sleeps with the geniuses and thinks within poets…after which, God has handed down a poetic justice!

It took these people of the third sex almost half a century to finally come out of their closets and to show to world they are living and existing in the same world we live in. Slowly, they were accepted, embedded in the society and appreciated their valuable contributions to different industries they have made names for themselves.

Now, we often see same sex marriage that happened in many parts of the globe because some countries have become liberal towards LGBT communities and has since passed laws allowing same sex marriage in their countries. The Philippines is following the trend, being the only Catholic nation in Asia has already softened its stance vis-a-vis same sex marriage and the present administration is on the verge of allowing it before it finishes its term. If this happens, this will be another moral victory for the third sex communities in the Philippines and in this regard, we can also expect a lovelier and more colorful celebrations of Valentine’s Day in the Philippines in not so distant years.

The world is getting old, so do us. it is completely different from the world we knew before wherein pollution, green house effects, global warming were the words so alien to us but became so familiar with as time went on. Armed conflicts are found in all four corners of the world brought about by contradicting religious beliefs and political upheavals. Hate and anger overcome the people’s sense of righteousness.

Lives and limbs are no sacred anymore but to kill and to maim people is the name of the game in order to move the selfish ambitions of a few to a greater extent. What a dangerous and cruel world we are living now. And in the last three hundred sixty-four days of the year, we lose the heart to understand the feelings of others. We failed to share our love with someone we love, we can’t give something without expecting a return, we know how to receive but don’t know how to reciprocate. Not only we lose the heart to love but some of our sensibilities, too.

It’s good there is Valentine’s Day. The day which we can reclaim the hearts and the sensibilities we lose. At least, once a year, there is a lull in some foolishness of the things we do. Time and again, we reverted to our old form of being affectionate to others and in a day, we learn how to love and be loved again. At least, once a year, we let love rule the world once again. Belated Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you!!!

Invitation card in 1930 1

To my dear blog site visitors, I welcome you to my first ever blog  site, which is the product of my sweat and labor. A realization of my dream to leave a mark and be known in the online dating industry. At this age of technical revolution, the world has witnessed how technology changed the way we live. Changes that keep affecting our lives, changes that happened overnight. And as long as technology continues to evolve, we can expect a different world we live in the soonest time possible. This is one of the very reasons why this blog site was created. I believe people have the right to be informed, so this is my way of disseminating information through this blog site to the people all over the universe. I truly appreciate your visits to my blog site and my fervent wish that this will not be your last.

In the past up to the present, we were accustomed to seeing our women, the Filipinas or simply called Pinays, marrying foreign bachelors like Americans, British, Europeans, Japanese and other Asian bachelors. The promise of good life is the foremost reason why they did that. Once the marriage become successful, other Filipina relatives will follow suit. A typical scenario is when a Filipina marries an American, this will earn her a chance to become an American citizen and live in America. The same thing happens if Filipinas married other nationalities. In the olden days, meeting and knowing future Filipina foreign partners where done through informal introductions (mostly by relatives and friends), penpals (exchanging letters) and by accidental meet-ups. This became the start of a very good beginning which may lead to something good for the Filipinas.

The meetings will be followed by acquaintances that normally would take time, sometimes several months up to several years depending on how long they developed their relationships that would eventually lead to marriages. There were times, the would-be groom would come to the Philippines purposely to marry his Filipina fiancee, or the other way around for the fiancee, and since means of communications were scarce during those times, not all marriages became successful, especially for couples who were only penpals before they tied the knots.

We had seen in the past how Filipinas were swayed by fleeting promises of foreign nationals through some unscrupulous intermediaries. Some were invited to visit and to meet their prospective life partners to the extent of shouldering travel expenses themselves only to be exploited and physically abused abroad.

The absence of credible dating sites during those times posed perils and to Filipinas who dreamed of marrying gentlemen from across the globe. Some fell preys to lurking predatory individuals who just waited for those opportune times to attack their would-be victims.

This perennial problem faced by Filipinas could have been avoided if thereere dating sites available those days that would enable them to fully understand the cultures and to know the true characters and identities of their would-be life partners. In so doing, Filipinas can be protected and can be assured of successful marriages with foreigners, notwithstanding a foreseeable life security is ahead of them.

This blog site is dedicated to alleviate the plights of Filipinas who are dreaming of marrying foreign nationals for a better future and life security. This blog site aims to be one if not the best site that will scrutinize, study, check and separate genuine datings sites from fake dating sites for Filipinas.

We will also publish reviews of genuine dating sites that we will undertake on regular basis with regards to the types and quality of the services they offer, and to promote and recommend those genuine dating sites that  would pass our criterias. In so doing, Filipinas will be safe and protected from fake dating sites and their cahoots. Rest assured, we will strive hard to fulfill our commitments to our fellow Filipinas.

Any queries and help you may want to ask, kindly leave them below,  and I will be more than glad to assist you.
